Hello, Tanya!
I received your letter. In size and content it is very small and brief — in fact you wrote nothing; I do not know why, and perhaps after mine you will write a more heartfelt and cheerful letter of the kind Muscovites know how to write. Your letter certainly made a special impression on me, because I did not expect it from you. Yes, that is only natural.
Tanya! You expressed a wish to correspond with me, which should be a continuation of our friendship… True, when I was at your place you held yourself too proudly and left yourself an unapproachable maiden… “I love you — why dissemble? / But I am given to another / And will be true to him forever.” Tanya! Forgive me, I misunderstood you; in any case there is at least some truth in this.
I must confess from a pure heart that when I first saw you, I liked you very much. Your appearance in the room, your secret glance always stirred me; I tried to talk with you, but somehow it never worked out, and besides you held yourself too boldly, calling me “wicked.” I took that, of course, as a joke.
Tanya! Spring has come — the merriest, best time for young people: spring is, in essence, a symbol of youth, happiness, cheer. What could be more pleasant than, on one of those charming April and especially May evenings, to go walking with a beloved girl. Pleasant fresh air, a quiet blue sky with many of your unknown stars, some special city noise — all of it charms and brings into every heart courage and a will to live with the spring.
Just now, Tanya, there is no chance to meet you, but I hope that in the not-distant future in Moscow we will meet again, if you are willing. Tanya! I ask you very much to send me your photograph; then I will send you mine too.
Tanya! Your brother Gesha and friends Vitya and Kolya are alive and well and send you greetings. Forgive me for writing poorly through my fault. I await your reply impatiently. I squeeze your hands hard and wish you all the best in your young life.

Я получил от тебя письмо. По размерам и содержанию оно очень маленькое и краткое, собственно ты ничего не написала, я не знаю почему и может быть
после моего ты напишешь более задушевное и веселое
письмо, которое так могут излагать москвичи.
Твое письмо, безусловно, произвело на меня особое впечатление так как я не ожидал его от тебя.
Да, ведь это вполне естественно.
Таня! Ты изъявила желание иметь со мной
переписку, которая должна быть продолжением
нашей дружбы ....
Правда, когда я был у вас ты держала себя
слишком гордо и оставила себя неприступной девой
.... Я вас люблю к чему лукавить?
Но я другому отдана
И буду век ему верна.
Таня! Простите я тебя не так понял, во
всяком случае в этом хотя сколько нибудь
имеется правды.
Я должен признаться от чистого сердца, что
когда впервые увидел тебя, ты мне очень
понравилась. Твое появление в комнате,
твой тайный взгляд всегда приводили меня
в волнение, я старался поговорить с тобой
но все это как-то не получалось и при том
ты держала себя слишком дерзко, называя, злой

ведь весна - по существу, есть символ молодости,
счастья, веселья. Что может быть приятней как в один
из таких очаровательных апрельских и в особенности
майских, вечеров пойти погулять с любимой девушкой.
Приятный свежий воздух, тихое синее небо со многими
твоими неведомыми звездами, какой-то особенный шум
города, все это очаровывает и вносит в сердце каждого человека бодрость, стремление к жизни с весны
Сейчас, Таня, нет возможности встретить тебя,
но я надеюсь что в недалеком будущем в Москве
мы встретимся снова, при условии если ты будешь
согласна.
Таня! Я очень тебя прошу, вот[?] чтобы ты мне
прислала свою фотокарточку, тогда я тоже
пришлю тебе.
